As I revealed on the NutleyWatch Facebook page four days ago, all of the required paperwork to begin the recall of Belleville Councilwoman and Democratic Committee Chair Marie Strumolo Burke has been filed successfully.
Sorry, *Deputy* Chair. Almost forgot, she received what barely qualifies as a slap on the wrist by Essex Democrats. That’s a good thing though, because it proves they are fully aware of what she stands accused of, yet have still done nothing.
Luckily, the people of Belleville are fast becoming an informed and empowered community.
A preview copy of the recall petition is available here:
For those of you just joining us, you can read about the sequence of events leading up to this action being initiated against Councilwoman Burke by her own ward right here on NutleyWatch. Thanks to an anonymous tip about the recording, we were the first to break this story, which has since spread all over the internet and even some national news outlets.
Oddly enough, the bigger story was not just the outrage over her racist remarks, but how the collective media refused to point out that this was in fact a Democrat who “allegedly” said these things.
Here in Belleville by the way, when a prominent forensic expert says it’s her voice beyond any reasonable scientific doubt, we tend to skip the word “allegedly”.
Anyway, here are the major highlights:

There is much more to the story of course, but that’s the basic overview. You can find more information by using the “Find Posts By Tags” feature in the right sidebar of the site, and clicking the tag for “Marie Strumolo Burke”.
For you first ward residents, we’ll have specific details about how to participate in the signature petition later next week, and information for anyone else who would like to pitch in and help with the effort.
