Belleville Councilwoman Marie Strumolo Burke and Her “Colorful” Phone Message

An anonymous tipster was kind enough to send NutleyWatch a YouTube link to “The Phone Call Heard ‘Round the County”.

Belleville’s First Ward Councilwoman Marie Strumolo Burke is alleged to be the woman heard in the background of this call, which was heavily political in nature. The man speaking is believed to be Sam Papa, a lifelong friend of Marie.

Sources say her voice has already been authenticated, but we’ll wait for the official word. Until then, ask yourself this – how many political Marie’s are there in Belleville who would have their phones ringing off the hook on word of a tax increase?

The angry racial outburst toward the end of the voicemail is casting a rather unpleasant light on the mayoral candidate, and not without good reason.

Listen to the whole message, but listen carefully at around 1:14.

Keep in mind, this is hot on the heels of her direct involvement in what I’m unofficially calling “PetitionsGate”. You can read about that rather interesting story on NorthJersey.com:

Belleville Candidate’s List Causes Concern

Councilwoman Burke, if this is in fact you, there are just no words for your inexcusable behavior, especially from an elected official. You should be ashamed of yourself.

You just deeply insulted nearly 4000 African-American residents of Belleville (and virtually anyone who hears your rant), and you have the nerve to ask them to support you?

You have the nerve, as the First Ward Council Member and Democratic Committee Chair, to say that you represent their best interests? You show contempt for the very people who gave you your political office in the first place?

The people of Belleville have a right to know exactly what type of person is trying to take control of this town. What you say off-camera behind closed doors speaks much more of you, than what you say when the cameras are turned on.

Such malicious racial intolerance has no place in politics, or anywhere for that matter, Mrs. Burke.

Own up to what you said, take responsibility for your words, and at least have the decency to apologize.

To all of our readers, please share this video with everyone in your social networks, and spread the word.
