“Don’t get so tolerant that you tolerate intolerance.” – Bill Maher
This rumor has been floating around since early last week, or at least, that’s when we started hearing it. Word around the campfire is that the NAACP may be making a sudden guest appearance at tomorrow’s Town Council Meeting, scheduled for 6:30 PM (Tuesday April 8th).
When I first heard this last week, I decided to hold off until I knew more. There was even talk of Al Sharpton and other civil rights leaders making an appearance, but that sounded a little optimistic. Maybe 20 years ago he would have popped in, but these days I’m not so sure. I’d be happy to be proven wrong on that one.
If anyone is wondering what they might be so up in arms over, have a quick peek at this:

Anyway, the rumors of the NAACP’s involvement have intensified in the last few days. There’s chatter about this all over the place, and from some credible sources. I have a feeling that tomorrow’s meeting could end up being a feeding frenzy, and not without good reason.
If you can make it to the meeting, please show your support and your solidarity by sending a clear signal that racial hatred will not be tolerated in this town.

UPDATE: While the NAACP did not make an appearance (at least not a visible one), we’re being told that they just wanted to hear Burke deny it once more before moving forward.
Luckily, Mrs. Burke was kind enough to not only completely deny the racial outburst again, but also basically confirmed it a short time later when she corrected another person as to when the phone call actually took place. Thank you, Marie.
Incidentally, I will be posting a transcript of the entire meeting as soon as it’s finished, so that you’ll be able to read for yourselves exactly what was said.
