The ACLU Is In Town

The past couple of days have been hectic, so I’m a day late on mentioning this.

The American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey has issued a letter of reprimand to the Nutley school system, citing “discriminatory enrollment policies” that make it harder for immigrant parents to enroll their children in public schools.

Evidently Nutley is just one of 136 school districts in violation of state enrollment laws. The school district has one month to revise their policy, or Nutley could face a lawsuit.

Belleville was also issued this same reprimand.

For the full story, see the following article on NorthJersey.com:

ACLU: Nutley schools’ policy discriminates

The only reason I’m bringing up this particular story here on NutleyWatch, is because I have a feeling we might be seeing much more of the ACLU around here.

Since our immediate goals are in alignment with theirs, I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to the ACLU in the fight to restore balance and rationality to the Belleville school district.
