It seems like many people weren’t aware of this meeting coming up, so I thought I would post the info here on NutleyWatch.

Not surprisingly, this public meeting is not listed on the Board’s calendar, or anywhere on the entire school district’s website that I could find.

The only actual announcement I’ve seen was a tiny column in back of the Belleville Times, so I’ll just quickly transcribe that here:

Thomas Egan the New Jersey Department of Education’s State Monitor for the Belleville School District announces a “Meet The Monitor” meeting on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 7:00 PM in the Belleville High School auditorium, 100 Passaic Avenue, Belleville NJ.

Mr. Egan welcomes questions from the public regarding his role and responsibilities in addressing the district’s deficit for the 2013-14 school budget and the impact the deficit will have on the 2014-15 budget. Mr. Egan joins the district with many years of experience in public education finance including schools districts facing financial stress. He feels optimistic that the community will benefit from this meeting as he can share his concerns regarding both finance and educational program. As a State Monitor he is well versed on New Jersey’s adequacy funding, state aide, Federal grants, tax levy, state mandates, and educational expectation from the state and local community. This meeting is an opportunity to understand the challenge and community obligation to provide quality education for Belleville’s students. At the same time, he will review the need to make difficult financial decisions and reduce spending, not programs.

There you have it. I highly suggest that everyone available make an effort to attend this meeting. If you have any pertinent questions, this is your chance to bring them to Mr. Egan’s attention.

If someone provides a video recording of the meeting, I will of course publish it on NutleyWatch, but I can’t promise anything.

Best to attend the meeting in person if you can.
