Belleville Educators: Please Don’t Put Yourselves At Risk

To all Belleville teachers and staff,

It has come to our attention that earlier last week, apparently a faculty member at a Belleville school was distributing the flyer below on school grounds:

As you can see, I have blurred out what was said in the flyer because while at least half of it has been documented already, some of the allegations in this flyer have not been, to my knowledge, fully substantiated yet. You can clearly see that this flyer was meant to draw attention to allegations of corruption and intimidation, and to undermine the Longo-Freda campaign.

While we’re being told this was done by a faculty member on school grounds, that scenario seems a little hard to swallow. Knowing they could be fired by an administration known for acts of retaliation, why would anyone risk their job like this simply to hand out a few flyers?

It’s almost just as believable that this whole stunt was done in an attempt to make the teacher’s union look bad. From the tactics we’ve seen lately, either explanation is equally plausible, and I’m not here to sway anyone’s opinion either way.

Assuming what we’re hearing is true, apparently this individual has been suspended, since this flyer basically condemns two Board Trustees. Fine, that makes sense, and that is exactly why I wanted to make this blog post. We of course had nothing to do with this, but I would like to offer a few words to anyone running a private campaign like this.

While I truly admire the initiative and the courage it takes to stand up for what’s right in the face of intimidation, and trying to raise awareness, there is no need for anyone to put their jobs at risk to accomplish what we are already fighting for.

The Nutley Watch, along with many brave people like yourselves, is working hard to unravel the truth, reaching a wider audience, and alerting the appropriate authorities as we go along. Other organizations have not only taken notice, but are moving toward taking action as well. The fire has already been lit, so there’s no need for anyone to carry the torch alone, and no need for simple allegations when we have documented facts.

If you want to contribute to the cause, here’s what you can do:

  1. Come forward and contact us anonymously through NutleyWatch.com to provide us with solid information. This has been a highly effective tool in our issue campaigns. DO NOT communicate with us from your work email address or any school computers. Based on what we know of the new surveillance system in the school district, you should assume that your communications are being monitored at all times, by any means possible. Only use your home network to reach us, or another private network you trust.
  2. Share what you read on NutleyWatch.com through social media networks like Facebook, and spread the word about what we’re trying to do here. Again, only on a network you trust.

These contributions will be far more effective in raising awareness of the issues affecting Belleville than any lone-wolf operations. Word of mouth by hundreds of new people visiting our site each day is what has allowed our campaign to gain such momentum in an incredibly short period of time.

By all means, join the fight here on NutleyWatch. Keep drawing our attention to things you know, but please, don’t put your jobs at risk. Let us continue to do the heavy lifting.

And should anyone retaliate against you without sufficient cause, please notify us immediately.

The wheels are in motion, and  the chess pieces are in position. In less than a month, this campaign has already reached the point where it has grown almost beyond our control. There’s no stopping it now. We are thrilled to see it gathering supporters, and getting attention from all the right forces. It is growing and evolving, as any true grassroots movement should.

In the coming weeks, this is going to explode. Even I don’t know at this point where the opening volley will be fired from.

What I do know, is that the first steps toward a positive change for Belleville and its education system may finally be within reach. And when we achieve our goals, it will all be because the good people of Belleville never gave up on this town.

All they needed was a coordinated team effort, a single unified voice, and the internet to do the rest.

Knowledge is power, and the cause of righteousness cannot be stopped.
