Cops Called on Teachers Meeting With NJEA Reps

Here’s one that came out of left field today.

Evidently a group of teachers met with NJEA representatives today at the Middle School. They met outside in the parking lot, after school hours, so that they could speak privately, and conduct their meeting in confidence. And I must say, it was quite a lovely day to enjoy an outdoor meeting.

WELL….it seems someone at the Middle School doesn’t appreciate blue skies and sunshine-filled meetings as much as teachers do, because someone called the cops on them. They even had a custodian go outside and photograph the meeting. A short time later, squad cars appeared on the scene.

What happened from that point forward is not yet clear.

I try really hard to keep up on current events, but I never realized it was a crime in Belleville for teachers to speak with the New Jersey Education Association.

And is it just me, or am I sensing a tremendous determination, presumably by certain school administrators, to interfere in union matters?

I’m no expert, but that’s probably a bad idea.

Update: By the way, I would be remiss if I didn’t extend an invitation to any representative of the Belleville Middle School to contact us with an official comment.

If not, no worries. We’d be more than happy to bring it up at the next (very) public meeting of the Board of Education.
